Industrial Dollies

Choose the right equipment that carries the weight and protects products and inventory. Move cartons, crates, machinery and other heavy cumbersome loads with control and ease. When workers have the right dolly for the task at hand, they can save time, work more efficiently, and stay safe.

If you run a delivery service, moving company, or other logistics service, moving items from one point to the next is the most important aspect of your business. Being able to transport items smoothly is crucial for keeping customers happy and building a strong reputation. Employees can transport smaller items, but larger items like appliances are heavy and difficult for people alone to lift – not to mention that regularly lifting heavy items is tough on the body and can  lead to employee burnout and high turnover.

Industrial dollies and trollies are a great alternative to moving heavy objects manually. Using dollies for lifting allows your team to move large, heavy items more easily. Tools like tandem trollies, container trollies, machine dollies and shipping container dollies allow you to safely move these items with less manpower. There are many types of trollies and dollies to suit a variety of lifting and transporting needs. Depending on your typical workload, GKS can recommend the best trolley or dolly for your operation.

So, what exactly is a dolly?

There are many different types of dollies, but at its core, a dolly is a platform on wheels. Typically, the platform will have one wheel on each corner.

Dollies have been around for decades, making transportation faster and easier. They can be used on a small scale to lighten the load of moving heavy, medium-sized objects, or on a large scale for construction needs. The type of dolly you need depends on your application and the surfaces in your space.

If your business requires frequent deliveries of heavy items, mid-sized dollies are an excellent investment. The time and effort saved by using a dolly, rather than manual labor alone, adds up quickly over time.

There are also objects that simply can’t be moved without a dolly. Using dollies for lifting means you only have to lift that object twice: once to put it on the dolly, and once to take it off. They make the process less physically demanding and increase employee safety by eliminating the news to carry that same object manually from point A to point B.

In cases where lifting the object twice is too much strain without assistance, a dolly may not be the best tool for you. In that case, you will want to consider a trolley.

Trollies (also called trolleys) can also be known as two-wheelers, stack trucks, trundlers, box carts, transport trolleys, and hand trucks. All of these names refer to an L-shaped piece of equipment with two wheels at the bottom.

Like dollies, trollies have long been used to move large, heavy objects. In their early days, they were used by young laborers to unload ships despite their lack of strength.

To use a trolley, you slide the short end of the L-shape underneath a heavy item, leveraging it up onto the wheels in order to transport the item. This means you do not have to lift the full weight of the object at any point. During transport, the wheels take on some of the weight to make the process more manageable.

Trollies are available in a few varieties, including 360-degree rotating trollies, lifting trollies, shipping container trollies and heavy load trollies.

If your crew needs to move heavy objects, trollies are just the tool for you.
