What Are Industrial Dollies?
Industrial dollies are a specialized type of heavy duty lifting equipment designed for transporting heavy loads. Industrial moving dollies can work in tandem with heavy duty toe jacks to create a complete lifting and moving system that ensures safe transportation of heavy loads and requires less manpower than traditional or manual lifting methods.
How Industrial Dollies Differ than Standard Dollies
Many people are familiar with hand trucks or smaller moving dollies. But these everyday use dollies differ significantly from industrial moving dollies.
Higher Load Capacity
The load capacity of an industrial moving dolly is orders of magnitude greater than that of a standard dolly. Even the smallest of industrial dollies, such as the RL1 rotating dolly from GKS, can handle up to 2,200 pounds, which is over a ton. Larger rotating dollies can carry up to twelve tons, or 26,000 pounds. Some transport and tandem dolly systems can accommodate loads up to 40 or even 60 tons.
End Uses
Another key difference between industrial dollies and standard dollies is end use. Industrial dollies are designed for large, heavy loads, ranging from laboratory and manufacturing equipment to full-sized shipping containers. An industrial moving dolly would be excessive for a retail environment or a residential move.
Some industrial dollies can be made with nickel plating, making them suitable for laboratories, clean rooms, chip, chemical, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other sensitive environments. The vast majority of standard dollies simply aren’t designed for this purpose and would introduce too many contaminants, such as “rust dust,” into the air.
Benefits of Investing in Industrial Moving Dollies
Increased Durability
Industrial moving dollies are designed specifically for rugged environments such as warehouses and shipyards. This equipment is engineered and built for durability and can perform as designed without having to be in highly controlled conditions.
Efficient Moving Time
Because industrial moving dollies are built specifically for heavy loads, they can execute large-scale moves very efficiently. In a similar vein, many industrial dollies can be operated safely with just a few people, which translates to great efficiency for smaller teams and skeleton crews.
Part of a Seamless System
Industrial dollies are designed to work in tandem with complementary moving equipment, such as industrial toe jacks. Leveraging these different types of equipment strategically usually results in a safer, smoother moving experience from start to finish.
Industrial Dollies and Moving Equipment From GKS
GKS is proud to manufacture the best industrial moving dollies and heavy-duty moving equipment on the market. Our industrial dollies, toe jacks, robots, and other products are German engineered for longevity and performance. We’ve paired that manufacturing excellence with responsive customer service in the American heartland, so you can always get the answers you need.
GKS offers several different types of dollies, including:
Transport Dollies
GKS transport dollies come in a wide range of lifting capacities and can be used for many different lifting applications. Our transport dollies are flexible and easy to steer, with adjustable widths.
Container Dollies
GKS container dollies are designed specifically for intermodal and shipping containers. Our container dollies come with specialized cone fittings at the corners for a more secure fit, and the two-part system can accommodate different load dimensions as needed.
Tandem Dollies
GKS tandem dollies combine the power of two dollies with a specialized fixture for greater power and flexibility. Our tandem dollies are fully adjustable and fantastic for fragile loads that aren’t compatible with jostling while in transit.
Nickel Plated
Many of GKS’s industrial dollies can be custom ordered with high-quality nickel plating. Our nickel-plated dollies have the functionality and lifting capacity as our standard industrial dollies, allowing you to move heavy loads in sensitive environments, such as clean rooms and sensitive manufacturing environments, without introducing contaminants.
Every single GKS industrial dolly undergoes comprehensive performance testing before it leaves our manufacturing facilities and comes with a five-year warranty. Our Ohio-based customer service team is always available to answer questions about dolly operation, help you choose the right moving equipment based on your needs, and order replacement parts to extend the life of your investment.
